Where Life Takes You
"Where Life takes You"
Graphite and colored pencil
on Stonehenge paper
8 x 10
Many of my abstract pieces grow from nothing more than a pencil mark. I let the marks and the shapes grow with time, ideas and emotions. I have no preconceived idea where they will take me but let the borders of the paper be the only restriction. Enjoy!

Acrylic Ink, pen and brush On Stonehenge Paper
8 x 10
Whenever I have been away from my easel for a period of time I always find I need to start back with an abstract. This helps to get my creative juices flowing and loosens me up quite a bit.

Acrylic Paint On Stretched Canvas

I have done this picture before with watercolor but I thought I would give it a try in acrylic paint. Unfortunately I was not able to get a good picture of it.

"A Trio Of Peppers"
6 x 6
I have decided that I need to concentrate on my painting skills for a little while. I will start teaching Floral workshops at Michaels soon so I need to practice a little. I will start doing some floral paintings next week to get my mind into it.

Acrylic on Stretched Canvas
This was a fun , quick painting to do. I just love working with strong shadows and one directional lighting. Originally the apple was resting on a black background but I felt it got lost in the abyss so I felt a patterned backing was needed.

"In The Shadows"
Graphite On Stonehenge Paper
8 x 10
This was a difficult portrait to complete due to the fact that B.J.'s face was in the shadows and the sun shone on him from behind. Even though I knew it might not be very successful, I did it as a challenge. When something feels uncomfortable to do it actually helps in developing skills further. It takes you out of your comfort zone.

Graphite On Stonehenge paper
20 x 24
This is the largest portrait I have ever done. I have done this picture of my son before but only on an 8 x 10 size. I loved the size and plan on doing a lot more in the future at this size. I have also started doing my own matting and framing. When you go this big it is very difficult to buy store frames to fit and it is much more convenient to start doing it yourself.

Watercolor On Watercolor Paper
I just can not get enough of the pear. The shape and how the light reflects off of the surface offers lots of fun challenges. I am still discovering things about watercolor and am exploring the different ways to manipulate the medium.

Ink on Watercolor Paper
5 x 5
I took this picture the other day. I didn't realize how odd this strawberry was until I looked at the shots afterwards. it looks like a little present or package. I did this using Winsor and Newton Calligraphy ink and Daler Rowney Acrylic Ink. I love these two products. They work very much like watercolor but dry more quickly and are even less forgiving than watercolor.
