I have decided that I need to concentrate on my painting skills for a little while. I will start teaching Floral workshops at Michaels soon so I need to practice a little. I will start doing some floral paintings next week to get my mind into it.

6 x 6
Acrylic on Stretched Canvas
This was a fun , quick painting to do. I just love working with strong shadows and one directional lighting. Originally the apple was resting on a black background but I felt it got lost in the abyss so I felt a patterned backing was needed.

"In The Shadows"
Graphite On Stonehenge Paper
8 x 10
This was a difficult portrait to complete due to the fact that B.J.'s face was in the shadows and the sun shone on him from behind. Even though I knew it might not be very successful, I did it as a challenge. When something feels uncomfortable to do it actually helps in developing skills further. It takes you out of your comfort zone.

Graphite On Stonehenge paper
20 x 24
This is the largest portrait I have ever done. I have done this picture of my son before but only on an 8 x 10 size. I loved the size and plan on doing a lot more in the future at this size. I have also started doing my own matting and framing. When you go this big it is very difficult to buy store frames to fit and it is much more convenient to start doing it yourself.

Watercolor On Watercolor Paper
I just can not get enough of the pear. The shape and how the light reflects off of the surface offers lots of fun challenges. I am still discovering things about watercolor and am exploring the different ways to manipulate the medium.

Ink on Watercolor Paper
5 x 5
I took this picture the other day. I didn't realize how odd this strawberry was until I looked at the shots afterwards. it looks like a little present or package. I did this using Winsor and Newton Calligraphy ink and Daler Rowney Acrylic Ink. I love these two products. They work very much like watercolor but dry more quickly and are even less forgiving than watercolor.

"When Tears Collide I can See His Soul"

20 x 24
"When Tears Collide I can See His Soul"
Unfortunately some things can not be experienced through photographs. It is difficult to see but in this painting I have used metallic paint. In the right light it shimmers. It is that affect that reminds me of tears. When I do an abstract painting I feel it is a record of my thoughts and ideas over a period of time. A look into my soul in a way. Just pure thought, images and emotions.

"Imperial Palace Marble Dragon Staircase Detail"

Acrylic Ink On Stonehenge Paper
8 x 12
My ink drawing was done from a photo that I had taken on my travels in China. It is a closeup shot of the marble details on the staircase outside the Imperial Palace in Beijing. The reason there are stairs on either side of the central design is when the Emperor was transported through the grounds of the palace he would have been carried. His attendants would be on both sides of his throne and they would walk the stairs and the Emperor would be carried above the dragon designs. When you visit the Imperial Palace you are over whelmed by the enormity of the place and all the intricate details...so much to see!!!!!

"Twilight"
20 x 24
Within this piece, I tried to create an energy and a spark. An explosion of color and shapes. The central gold piece is where the energy starts but also it is the core from which everything comes from. Within all my abstract pieces it is always about creation of life so the center can also be the birth zone or "egg" and everything around it the production of life. Another element which I always include as well is the sperm shape which flows in and around the core creating life and energy.
